Positive self-test

If you do a self-test and the result is positive, you must self-isolate. You do not have to get the result confirmed by the GGD. Do the check (quarantainecheck.rijksoverheid.nl) to find out what you need to do.

Waiting for the GGD test results

You can receive the test results by phone or online.

Getting the results by phone

You can tell the municipal health service (GGD) that you want to receive the test results by phone, for instance if you don’t have a DigiD. They will phone you to give you the results as quickly as possible. You do not need to call them. If you have a DigiD, you can also log in to Coronatest.nl to see the results. If you have already seen the results online, the GGD will not call you unless your test was positive. This means you have coronavirus.

Getting the results online

If you made an appointment online or told the municipal health service (GGD) when you phoned for an appointment that you want to receive the test results online, you will get an email when it is available on Coronatest.nl. Sometimes this email goes to the spam or junk folder.

Email from GGD if you test positive

If your test result is positive, this means you have coronavirus. In this case the GGD will always contact you by sending a secure email (web page in Dutch only). The secure email contains information in Dutch and English about your test result and what you should do.

Stay at home until you get the results

Stay at home from the moment you develop symptoms until you get the results of your coronavirus test. Do not go to work, school or the shops. You should not receive any visitors at home.

If your symptoms worsen before you get the results, contact your family doctor or the out-of-hours GP service. In a life-threatening situation, always call 112.

Negative coronavirus test

If your test comes back negative, you did not have coronavirus at the time of testing. You do not need to stay home.

Avoid contact with people in at-risk groups

If you have been tested, avoid contact with people from at-risk groups for the next 10 days. Older people and people with a chronic illness are at greater risk of severe COVID-19. It’s possible you have coronavirus and are yet to develop symptoms. You can also infect others even if you have no symptoms. In addition, keep following the advices to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Symptoms continue after negative test

It’s possible that your coronavirus test comes back negative, but you still have symptoms of COVID-19. Keep following the advices to limit the spread of coronavirus and avoid contact with people from at-risk groups. Call your doctor if your symptoms get worse, if you have a fever above 38 degrees or if you have trouble breathing.

Symptoms recur after negative test

If you again develop symptoms of COVID-19 or your symptoms get worse, stay home and get tested. Or call your family doctor.

Positive coronavirus test

If your GGD test comes back positive you must self-isolate at home. This means taking measures to avoid infecting others in your household, like eating and sleeping in a separate room. Do the check (quarantainecheck.rijksoverheid.nl) to find out what you need to do.
